Once a Hare challenged Tortoise for a race. Halfway through the race, Hare realised he is far ahead of Tortoise. He stopped, ate lots of carrots, and slept. When he woke up, Tortoise was already on the finish line.
Moral of the story: Overconfidence is disastrous. Never overestimate your abilities.
Hare challenged Tortoise again, this time - he offered a bet; if Tortoise wins Hare will give him 100 carrots. If Hare wins, Tortoise shall give 50. Tortoise thought, he had already won. So he will definitely win this time as well. But, Hare didn't repeat his mistake. He was consistent and won the race and 50 carrots.
Moral of the story: Analyse your victory. Learn from your failures. Slow and steady doesn't win the race. Fast and consistent do.
Tortoise bet double or nothing to Hare, for a race in a different direction. When Hare reached halfway, he saw a big river which he could not cross. Tortoise swam across and won the bet.
Moral of the story: Play on your strength. Don't put your valuables at risk without analysing the whole thing.
A few months later Tiger announced Jungle Open Marathon. The track was designed to be equally challenging for all participants. The winner would get 1000 carrots. Runner up 700 and third place 500. Hare, Tortoise, Elephant, Blackbuck, Deer and Camel participated. All of them were trained well. Elephant dominated the race until he stopped on the way to pluck and eat sugarcanes. When the race ended, Elephant came third, whooping 'I love sugarcanes!' and he carried a big bunch of it. When asked, about giving up the first place and huge prize of 1000 carrots - Elephant replied, 'carrots is not all I want to live with'.
Moral of the story: Money is not everything to live for. Take time out to do what you really like.
